Miami-Dade Principal of the Year Award Goes to James McGhee II

Montessori Life, Summer 2004

James R. McGhee II, principal of Alexander School in Miami, FL, was selected out of 60 candidates to be honored as Principal of the Year by the Miami-Dade County Media Specialists Association.

McGhee holds AMI and AMS credentials (EC and EII, respectively). His American studies were at the Dallas Montessori Teacher Program in Texas. He has taught on the preschool and elementary levels. In addition, he is a director of the Association of Independent Schools of Florida and the Florida Kindergarten Council, and secretary of the board of the National Independent Proprietary Schools Association.

A long-time member school of AMS, Alexander School was founded by James's parents, Beverly and Jim McGhee, and named for his grandparents, Alice and Henry Alexander. In the 41 years since its founding, Alexander School has grown from a single kindergarten class to a school for 400 children ages 2 - 12.

We congratulate McGhee on his award and thank him for helping to bring awareness of Montessori education to the broader public.
