Life Lessons Cookies: Bite-Size Life Lessons By Amy Krause Rosenthal Illustrated by Jane Dyer New York: HarperCollins Publishers, 2006 $12.99

By Linda Farmer

Satisfaction means being hooked from the first page to the last by the approach author Amy Krause Rosenthal has taken to define some of life's toughest words. It's not a far stretch to imagine how the metaphor of a cookie could be used to demonstrate the meaning of words such as fair, polite, patient, and greed. However, you might not expect a cookie to be able to illustrate other concepts like proud, respect, trustworthy, and courageous - but Rosenthal pulls it off in an imaginative way.

The book also provides a feast for the eyes. Jane Dyer's detailed illustrations of adorable children and whimsical animals are the perfect companions for the simply worded definitions.

The "bite-size life lessons" will be appreciated by adults and understood by the youngest cookie lover. The book will cause you to smile and go in search of someone with whom to share cookies and milk, again and again!
