RxHelp4NV.org Helps Connect Nevadans to Needed Prescriptions

Nevada RNformation, Aug 2004

In May 2004, Assemblywoman Barbara Buckley, with the Governor's office for Consumer Health Assistance, officially launched RxHelp4NV.org. an online consumer resource that helps connect Nevada consumers without prescription drug coverage to the medicines they need.

"I have spent years advocating for prescription drug coverage, trying to ensure that seniors and those with disabilities have access to medications," Buckley said. "RxHelp4NV.org is a user-friendly resource that helps Nevadans find the prescription drugs they need."

The Web site asks five basic eligibility questions, such as age, income, and needed medication. That data is then checked against a database of company, state and foundation-operated patient assistance programs. Individuals are then connected to the programs that most closely fit their unique criteria. Consumers who need help in obtaining medicines can log on to www.RxHelp4NV.org. fill out an online form and receive a list of programs for which they may qualify.

RxHelp4NV.org is hosted by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). In 2003, 6.2 million people in the United States were provided free prescription or significantly discounted medicines. In 2002 alone, patient assistance programs helped over 14,000 Nevadans.

RxHelp4NV.org was created in 2003 when the Nevada Legislature passed Assembly Bill 236. This bill is implemented by the Governor's Office for Consumer Health Assistance.
