Eastern New Mexico University coach Dan Buzard recently underwent surgery for a brain tumor.

Buzard, 36, was taken ill in August while visiting relatives in Albuquerque.

Buzard's wife, Jennifer, told the Associated Press her husband could return to coaching this season if his recovery goes well.

Buzard, a Portales, N.M. native and 1992 ENMU graduate, spent 13 years as a graduate and full-time assistant. The Zias went 7-20 in Buzard's first year and improved to 16-12 last year, earning the coach Lone Star Conference South Division Coach of the Year honors.
