Alabama Heritage Turns Twenty
Alabama Heritage, Summer 2006 by Cox, Donna L
Dear Readers:
Twenty years ago this summer, many of you read your first issue of Alabama Heritage, and you've been with us ever since. Our staff dedicates this issue to those charter subscribers and to Suzanne Wolfe, Alabama Heritage's founding editor, whose vision, talent, and tenacity built this publication.
To gamer the necessary support, Suzanne needed to have a full year of articles committed before the first issue rolled out the door. She set out to convince some of the state's leading experts on history and culture to write articles for a magazine that, as yet, existed only in her imagination. And she did it. She turned her vision into a magazine that has been winning devotees and awards ever since.
When funding cuts threatened the magazine ten years later, Suzanne and Marketing Director Sara Martin built a charitable foundation with an excellent board of directors, most of whom still serve us today. They asked our loyal readers to save the magazine. And you did.
We thank you. We thank Sara Martin and our wonderful foundation board. And we thank Suzanne for the vision that has yielded twenty wonderful years and counting.
Sincerely,
Donna L. Cox
