LETTERS
Ask, Nov/Dec 2004
Dear Ask,
This is my first time to send you a letter, so I will tell you about my life. I am half-American and halfAfrican. I get ladybug, Spider, and Ask magazines. I really like them. 1 live in the capitol of Senegal in West Africa. The name of the city is Dakar. I am 9 years old and in the third grade.
From your friend,
Abdoulaye C., Senegal
Dear Abdoulaye,
I am all African, but I live in the United States. I am very young so I'm not in a grade yet. (Maybe next year.) I'm glad my magazine gets to travel all the way to Senegal each month-how exciting!

Dear Ask,
This month I got the issue "What's So Bad about Dirt?" I didn't know that dirt was so useful and that the dirt on the moon was sticky. I was going to ask if dinosaurs were the first living things on earth, and how the earth was born. If you could, will you write a letter to me with some cool stuff in it and the answers to my questions? Science is my favorite subject, and I love to learn more every chance I get.
Sincerely,
Anthoni L., Texas
Dear Anthoni,
Nobody is quite sure how the earth came to be. There are a lot of theories. But dinosaurs were definitely not the first living things on earth. Bot was! No, I'm kidding. The first living things were probably single-celled organisms. Multicelled organisms and animals with backbones came along later . . . in my case, much later (I am highly evolved and very smart).

Dear Whatson,
I like you the best (since I discovered Elvis was a boy). You like mud, and so do I! You love reading books, and so do I!
Your fan,
Elizabeth S., age 8, Colorado
P.S. What kind of animal are you?
P.P.S. Please write back!
Dear Elizabeth,
I am a burrowing, mud-loving animal, and my favorite food is: earthworm pizza! What am I? Well, I am a bit of a book worm, but I have fur so I am really a mole.
Whatson
P.S. Helpful hint: Don't read library books while taking a mud bath. The librarian will get really mad at you.
