Ask Jimmy and The Bug

Ask,  Mar 2008  by Braaf, Ellen

Identical twins Shelley and Shirley often call each other at the exact same time. As third graders, they drove their teacher nuts. Not only did they look, dress, sound, and act alike, but once they scored the same on a big test because they got exactly the same questions wrong. Their teacher couldn't figure it out, since she sat them at opposite ends of the classroom and watched them very carefully. Such spooky "coincidences" are not unique to Shelley and Shirley.

Dr. Nancy Segal, a scientist who studies both identical twins (who share 100 percent of their genes) and fraternal twins (who share about 50 percent of their genes), is often asked if identical twins have extrasensory perception (ESP), or mind-reading abilities. Even though twins sometimes show incredible similarities, she says there is no scientific proof that twins communicate with ESR Experts have argued for years whether people behave the way they do because of their genes or their upbringing and experiences. Twin studies show that your genes may guide your behavior more than you think!
