3Com Unveils Security Switch

Enterprise Networks & Servers, Jan 2004

3Com Corp. has released an enterprise-class security services switch capable of addressing specific vulnerabilities or blended threats, the 3Com Security Switch 6200. The 3Com Security Switch 6200 is a security platform that supports multiple proven applications such as Check Point NG Fire Wall-1/VPN-1, Internet security Systems RealSecure intrusion detection, antivirus, content filtering, and more.

"The 3Com Security Switch 6200 delivers a cost-effective, no-compromise enterprise security solution that combines proven security applications into an integrated security services switch platform," said Michael Homeier, 3Com director of solutions architecture for security solutions. "The 3Com Security Switch 6200 is aligned with the 3Com pervasive network strategy of moving beyond being a provider of point products that reside as network add-ons to be a provider of a security framework that is the network."

The 3Com Security Switch 6200 currently services the 3Com world headquarters based in Marlborough, Mass., according to Timothy Dorian, 3Com IT network security manager.

"Configuring the 3Com Security Switch 6200 was quick and simple," said Dorian. "Because this device runs on standard applications, the migration was smooth and painless. I believe the 3Com Security Switch 6200 offers an easier to deploy and more reliable way to improve a network's vulnerability to Internet hackers and e-mail viruses."

The 3Com Security Switch 6200 is a result of a strategic alliance and original equipment manufacturer agreement announced Nov. 3,2003 between 3Com and Crossbeam Systems, a global developer of total security solutions. Under the agreement, 3Com markets, sells and supports Crossbeam's security services switches to enterprise customers under the 3Com brand name.
