Guardium Introduces SQL Guard

Enterprise Networks & Servers, Mar 2004

Guardium has moved into the data security market with the introduction of SQL Guard, a non-intrusive, network-based data access security appliance that deters unauthorized access to critical data residing in corporate relational databases.

SQL Guard delivers continuous visibility into all network-based access to distributed databases, enabling organizations to gain precise knowledge about the who, what, when and how of activity between all internal/external users and distributed relational databases. SQL Guard effectively tackles critical enterprise security challenges including database access security health, access policy development, intrusion detection, compliance reporting, auditing and data transaction archiving/ analysis.

"Understanding database access activities is a black hole for security, privacy and auditing professionals," said Ram Metser, CEO of Guardium. "We entered this market because we saw a clear need to empower organizations with a security solution that gives organizations extraordinary and precise access visibility for building intelligent and secure database environments. With SQL Guard, we are taking data security to new levels by arming enterprises with unmatched actionable knowledge."

SQL Guard is a network appliance that sits strategically in front of the database to monitor all access activities by inspecting information from the network, applications and SQL/database layers. This approach enables SQL Guard to offer a more global network view from outside of the database and deliver visibility to database access.

"Safeguarding valuable corporate data is becoming an increasing priority for enterprises today," said Peter Lindstrom, research director of Spire security LLC. "Guardium is taking an innovative approach to database security with a network-based appliance focused on protecting the core without degrading database performance. What makes SQL Guard even more attractive as a database security solution is its transparent support for heterogeneous application/database environments and the breadth of applications for database security, privacy and data auditing applications alike."
