Netopia Enhances Enterprise Systems Management Software

Enterprise Networks & Servers, May 2004

Netopia has released netOctopus Enterprise Systems Manager, Version 5.1 with the all new netOctopus Software Delivery System (SDS). NetOctopus SDS enables administrators to package, stage and distribute software, updates and patches throughout their network with automated scheduling, server load balancing, remote installation and logging.

"Cost reduction remains the top concern of IT executives, and the netOctopus Software Delivery System answers this need," said Tom Skoulis, senior vice president and general manager at Netopia. "By automating the time-consuming tasks of software distribution, netOctopus maximizes the efficiency of IT staff, and directly impacts profitability."

The netOctopus Software Delivery System includes the following.:

Filtered inventories to test hardware compatibility prior to software deployment, preventing unanticipated expenses from required hardware upgrades;

A special version of Mindvision's InstallerVISE software, for customized packaging of applications prior to deployment;

Active agent software checks for and downloads software, software updates and patches on a pre-set schedule;

Policy-based distribution groups determine what software is made available to each managed computer; and

Distribution Center Server software, which manages the deployment, balancing loads between staging servers, restarting failed downloads, and logging progress and results of the deployment.
