LANsurveyor 8.5 Diagrams SIP-Based VoIP Devices

Enterprise Networks & Servers, May 2004

Neon Software has made available LANsurveyor 8.5 for Windows. LANsurveyor helps network administrators and IT managers diagram networks, monitor key network components, remotely manage key systems, create network and desktop asset reports, and solve network problems.

The new version is the first network management software to automatically map SIP-based voice-over-IP devices.

Additionally, it extends LANsurveyor's network diagramming and reporting features by including router and switch port connectivity information, enhancing intrusion detection alerts, and adding XML access to software and hardware asset information.

In a recent report, Gartner Research estimates that by the end of 2006, 50 percent of enterprise IP telephony and unified messaging systems will support Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as an option. Gartner expects it to be the preferred industry protocol because it is faster and easier to implement than the more-established H.323 standard.

"LANsurveyor is invaluable for accurately diagramming and troubleshooting large, two thousand-plus node networks," said Russ Cartwright, consultant at Intellinet.

"I use and recommend LANsurveyor at all my enterprise sites."

LANsurveyor 8.5 includes the following new features.

* SIP-based voice-over-IP device mapping and reporting

* Complete router and switch connectivity maps

* Enhanced continuous scan IDS intruder alerts

* XML-based access to Neon Responder asset information

* Neon Responder client deployment via Windows Active Directory

LANsurveyor is now available from Neon Software resellers, distributors, and the Neon Software Web site. All LANsurveyor editions are capable of mapping an entire WAN.

In addition to LANsurveyor, Neon Software publishes CyberGauge and NetMinder Ethernet.
