Unisys Global Public Sector Taps Asurion For Wireless Device Management

Enterprise Networks & Servers, Aug 2004

Asurion and Unisys Corp. have entered into a partnership to streamline wireless device procurement and management for the Transportation security Administration (TSA).

Through this partnership, the companies will procure, deploy and support BlackBerry wireless devices throughout the TSA.

"Asurion's unparalleled competency in managing all aspects of mobile device management and support led to their selection," said Thomas Frederick, director of Wireless Interoperability for Unisys Global Public sector. "Their high-level carrier relationships and industry expertise, coupled with sophisticated logistics and top-notch customer care, made them the natural choice to support this critical client in a time of rapid growth."

"Deploying and managing a fleet of thousands of mobile data devices across multiple wireless carriers is a daunting challenge for most IT and telecom departments," said Bzur Haun, vice president, Strategic Alliances for Asurion Mobile Equipment Solutions. "We are thrilled to contribute Asurion's unique expertise to Unisys cuttingedge mobility solution for TSA."

With a single call to Asurion, the Unisys team can procure any device on any carrier network for a TSA employee anywhere in the country at a fixed monthly hardware price.

"Our unique cross-carrier supply chain also ensures timely replacement for loss, theft, damage or malfunction." Haun added. "As federal agencies and corporations move from pilot to enterprise-wide rollout, they are increasingly recognizing the value of outsourcing to reduce the costs and hassles of device support and to eliminate the complexity of cross-carrier process and policy differences."

Asurion is a leading provider of wireless equipment management and protection, with over 14 million customers. Services include device preparation and deployment, post activation support, break/fix, insurance, financing, hardware refresh and warranty administration.
