Unisys adding 100 to expand JBoss work

Enterprise Networks & Servers, Jul 2005

Unisys Corp. has become a JBoss Inc. Premier Systems Integrator, and plans to have more than 100 JBoss trained and certified personnel on staff. JBoss combines the low-cost economics of open source software with the world-class development methodologies, support and accountability expected from enterprise software vendors.

This strategic agreement will benefit companies that are looking to use Unisys consulting services to support migration from proprietary enterprise application middleware to JBoss' open source solutions.

Tom Elliott, president of Global Commercial Industries at Unisys, said open source software is the next big disruptive technology.

"All companies across commercial industries and government organizations need to consider to what extent it can be deployed in their business to help gain significant value and competitive advantage," Elliott said. "We are investing to help our customers, in a variety of industries, create IT infrastructure efficiencies and achieve competitively differentiating performance through JBoss and other open source solutions."

Unisys consulting services span the entire portfolio of JBoss Enterprise Middleware System (JEMS) projects, including JBoss Application Server, Hibernate, Tomcat, JBoss Cache, JGroups, jBPM, jPortal and J Boss AOP.

The JBoss Premier Systems Integrator partnership further expands the Unisys and JBoss relationship.

As a Certified Technology Partner, Unisys has the ability to incorporate JBoss technologies in its mission-critical products such as Communications Ensemble, a next-generation messaging platform.

Also as a JBoss Authorized Service Partner, Unisys can provide support and training services to its customers on Unisys ClearPath and ES7000 servers. These servers provide Unisys clients with secure, reliable and highly scalable technology platforms at a significant cost savings over competing technologies.

Tom Cooper, vice president of JBoss, said his company and Unisys share the same vision for enterprise IT environments, which is to be more responsive to changing business requirements while saving the enterprise time and money.
