CAN ANYONE BEAT THIS?

Swimming World Magazine, Jun 2005

The Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL), now heading into its 50th summer, has nurtured many national and Olympic-level swimmers, including 1972 Olympic champion and WR-holder Melissa Belote and more recent standouts such as Ed Moses and Markus Rogan. They all set league records in their day.

But the oldest league record in the books-now celebrating its 40th year-belongs to Roger McLeod, reports Coach Mike Moriarity. In 1965, McLeod, competing in the boys 8-and-under division, swam 15.1 seconds for the 25 meter freestyle. "Every year, one or two kids go about 15.9 or 16.0, but no one has really threatened that record in 40 years," says Moriarity.

Are there any summer league records that have lasted this long or longer? Write and let us know.
