Alaska: TOP OFFICIALS OPPOSE LEGALIZING MARIJUANA

Crime Control Digest, Oct 15, 2004

The governor, the White House and top police officials called for voters to defeat a voter initiative to legalize marijuana possession.

The measure would make it legal for adults to grow, use, sell or give away marijuana. It would also allow regulation and taxation of marijuana.

State Police Director Julia Grimes, White House deputy drug czar Scott Burns and Gov. Frank Murkowski said marijuana is a gateway drug that is more potent than in the past.
