MMA offers endorsement for Senate

Mississippi Business Journal, The, Jul 28, 2008

The Mississippi Manufacturers Association (MMA) board of directors has voted unanimously to endorse Roger Wicker for U.S. Senate. The Republican from Tupelo faces former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove in the November 4 general election.

The MMA says Wicker, who was appointed by Gov. Haley Barbour to fill the seat of Trent Lott, had a nearly perfect voting record on manufacturing issues during his 14 years in the U.S. House of Representatives as the congressman from Mississippi's 1st District. The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has presented Wicker its NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence all five times the award has been given.

"Manufacturers have worked closely with Roger Wicker on issues that impact Mississippi's economy, and he is always supportive of proposals that protect jobs and encourage growth," said MMA president and CEO Jay C. Moon, CEcD, FM. "We support Roger in his bid for U.S. senator and believe he is the best candidate to help bring quality jobs to the state."

George Taylor of Reed Manufacturing in Tupelo, MMA's elected chairman of the board, said, "We will share with our members around the state Roger's efforts on behalf of manufacturers in Northeast Mississippi as a congressman and let them know that as senator, he will now be working for manufacturers from Pascagoula to Tunica."
