Associated General Contractors presents awards

The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Utah, an independent chapter of the AGC of America, presented the 2006 AGC Awards recently at the organization's annual convention in Salt Lake City.
Winner of the Building Award in the $25 and under category was Hughes General Contractors and the Geneva Pipe Corp. for the new Geneva Pipe facility. In the $25 million and over category, Layton Construction Co., FFKR Architects and the State of Utah took home the award for the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah. Building Project of the Year awards went to Doug Hronek, Heather Talenah and Clyde Mullin of Jacobsen Construction Co., as well as MHTN Architects and Zions Securities Corp. for the Zions Bank Building.
Clyde Mullin of Jacobsen Construction Co. also received the Superintendent of the Year award. Other recipients of the award were Gaylen Stewart of Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Co. Inc. (highway division) and Steve Gibbons of Whittaker Construction Co. (utility division).
Highway awards for projects $10 million and under went to Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Co. Inc., Wasatch Pacific and Jim Deschenes of Michael Baker Corp. Engineers for the Big Cottonwood Canyon Loop Road Bridges. The award for highway projects $10 million and over went to Granite Construction and the Utah Department of Transportation for the 1-80 Milepost 10 to Milepost 30 design/build. Transportation Project of the Year awards went to Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Co. Inc., the Utah Department of Transportation and H.W. Lochner for the SR-201 design/build.
UDOT Employee of the Year was Lisa Wilson, Region 2 project manager.
Utility Project of the Year awards went to W.W. Clyde and Co. and the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake City/Sandy for the Point of the Mountain Aqueduct.
Additional awards were also presented. Keith Stepan from the state Division of Facilities and Construction Management was named Owner of the Year, and Specialty Contractor of the Year went to Tuhayne, DC Transport and Excavating Inc.
Intermountain Concrete Specialties was named Service/Supplier of the Year and Jack Cashman of Scott Machinery Co. was awarded Salesperson of the Year. Committee Chairperson of the Year went to Nathan Brimhall from the Safety Committee, the Service to the Industry Award went to Lane Beattie and the Eric W. Ryberg Construction Guy Award went to Boyd L. Fugal.
