ASSET MANAGEMENT

Systems management specialist Altiris is aiming for better purchasing decisions and tracking of IT assets with the new version of its management solution.

The company claims its Asset Management Suite 6.0 will help firms to uncover and eliminate hidden costs, streamline processes and get the best return on their IT investment.

It is designed to eliminate unnecessary software and hardware costs, manage contracts, align service resources and allow companies to effectively reduce their assets.

Mark Magee, Altiris's client and mobile segment manager, said 70-90 per cent of the cost of running IT assets was incurred during maintenance, and Suite 6.0 would cut this expense.

"In terms of asset management the new suite offers more than measuring inventory," he said.

"It means identifying what devices you have, what software you have installed, and managing those devices all from one platform.

"It also tells you what software and patches you need and what your assets are costing."

The suite enables users to amalgamate data from different systems quickly because it uses a single data storage facility.

Altiris says the new suite is effective because it approaches configuration and asset management simultaneously.

This means fewer staff are needed to monitor systems, because die Altiris system coordinates accurate reporting of data itself.
