FELLOWSHIP

Two further purchasing professionals have been elected to fellowship of the institute.

One of the new CIPS fellows is Alan Jackson, director of purchasing, Royal Mail Group. Jackson was appointed to his present position in 1997 since when he has led a team of purchasing professionals whose annual spend exceeds £2 billion.

Before joining Royal Mail Group, Jackson held senior positions in several European and US blue-chip organisations in the manufacturing and service industries. He holds a master's degree in business administration and has been a member of the institute since 1994. Jackson was elected to council in 2003 as the member for the business services sector. He also acts as a reviewer for the CIPS MBA dissertation award.

Also elected to fellowship is Ken Cole, who founded Strategic Procurement Services in 2001 to help organisations - particularly those in the public sector - to benefit from best practice and innovative procurement approaches.

More recently, Cole's work on pioneering collaborative procurement has included founding the Procurement Agency for Essex and playing a key role at the London Centre for Excellence.

These roles followed a successful career in the IT sector and 19 years in procurement and project management in the civil service.

Cole joined the institute in 1982 and has chaired the CIPS information systems committee since 2001. He is also a Liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists.
