A 'golden chance'
Supply Management, Mar 13, 2008
The increasingly high profile of the procurement function presents a golden opportunity for purchasers to move into a more central business role - but only if they can acquire the broader range of strategy and business skills required to survive at a senior level.
This is according to CIPS speakers at the eWorld purchasing and supply business forum that took place in London last month.
In their keynote address, "Strategic thinking: developing a new generation of purchasing professionals", Ian Schollar, CIPS head of practice development, and Gerard Chick, head of knowledge management at CIPS, explored the current "talent-crunch" in procurement. They also offered insights into the skills that will be needed for the "new wave" of buyers.
Chris Sawchuck from strategic advisory firm, the Hackett Group, was among other speakers at the event.
CIPS will support the next eWorld purchasing and supply conference, which takes place on 23-24 September at the New Connaught Rooms, London.
