CPG CONFERENCE

Construction industry leaders will address delegates at "Constructing the team 2008", the annual conference of the CIPS construction procurement group (CPG), near Birmingham next month.

Martin Bailey (right), chief innovation officer at NG Bailey, a building services provider, will explain how organisations should approach "Investing in training and development to deliver business success".

Guest speaker John loannou, director of the OGCs Smarter Construction division at the OGC, will suggest ways for "Improving construction procurement in the public sector", and Alison Ahearn, lecturer at Imperial College London, will explain a new concept in creating construction teams in "Constructionarium - teams, dreams and learning".

"The changing face of the construction team" will be outlined by Simon Murray, senior education manager at ConstructionSkills, the sector Skills Council for construction. Tom Storey, Be Onsite operations director at Bovis Lend Lease, and Matthew Lewis, business director at Hays Construction & Property, will also be speaking.

CPG chair Antony Faughnan, partner at international built asset consultancy EC Harris, urged members to reserve their free place as soon as possible. "Investing in training and development is vitally important in attracting, recruiting and retaining the best talent," he said.

"Constructing the Team 2008" will be held on 23 April at the Holiday Inn Birmingham M6, Junction 7, Chapel Lane, Great Barr, Birmingham. Registration opens at 9am with coffee for a 9.30am start and the programme closes at 3.15pm. Attendance is free to CIPS members, £50 including VAT for non-members. Book with CIPS customer response centre on 0845 88 011 88 or e-mail crc@cips.org.
