WORLD BRIEFS

Supply Management,  May 22, 2008

* AUSTRALIA

Australia's National Farmers' Federation (NFF) has attacked the country's competition commission over its investigation into retail prices.

The NFF said the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) had underestimated its task and couldn't rely on public hearings to gather evidence.

"It is the ACCC's job to use its full investigative powers to examine what is happening along the entire supply chain - we can't be expected to gift wrap it," said David Crombie, NFF president.

* CHINA

The Chinese government is set to adopt a collaborative national e-procurement system to help with processes and sourcing suppliers.

It is hoped the service will strengthen public purchasing and increase transparency, according to website chinatechnews.com.

* KENYA

Italian air navigation systems firm Selex Sistemi has challenged the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority's (KCAA) decision to terminate a Sh2.2 billion (£16 million) contract to modernise navigation equipment.

The KCAA said it had insufficient funds, but the Italian firm has obtained a court order to stop the termination, pending a full court hearing, according to African news website allafrica.com.

* CROATIA

Public procurement in Croatia is the area most exposed to corruption, according to the country's government.

Justice minister Ana Lovrin said the administration would make purchasing procedures more transparent and increase supervision to combat corrupt behaviour, The Guardian reported.
