Central: Renovations Derailed

NJBIZ, Nov 14, 2005

RARITAN VALLEY The mad dash will continue for commuters who ride the Raritan Valley line to New York City. NJ Transit has delayed plans for renovations to Newark Perm Station that would allow those passengers to catch New York City-bound trains without switching platforms.

Riders must run up one flight of stairs and down another to get to the city-bound train, a jog that results in many commuters missing their connections. NJ Transit had planned to complete renovations by March 2007, but now says they won't be done until the summer of 2008.

In another move, NJ Transit has cut the 1002 train's stop at the Great Notch station on the Montclair-to-Boonton Line. That stop enabled commuters to reach Hoboken where they can catch the PATH train into New York City.
