Novartis' Busy Week

A tablet that inhibits an enzyme produced by the kidney and an antifungal ointment were on the menu for Novartis last week. The Swiss drugmaker received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Tekturna, a blood pressure medicine that is the first approved by the federal agency to repress renin, an enzyme in the kidney that plays a role in regulating blood pressure.

Novartis, whose U.S. headquarters is in East Hanover, also announced it will help Princeton-based Barrier Therapeutics to market Vusion Ointment, the specially pharmaceutical company's salve for diaper rash that has been aggravated by Candida, a fungus.
