Charles L. Friedman has been named a principal to the private client tax and advisory services practice of the Schonbraun McCann Group (SMG) in Roseland. Friedman has more than 23 years of experience in trusts, estate and individual tax planning. Before joining SMG, he developed and implemented estate and financial planning strategies for a regional CPA firm. He was also associated with the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges in its trusts and estates department. Friedman received his law degree from New York Law School and holds a bachelor's degree from Baruch College.
Mark S. Halpern has been named a principal to the private client tax and advisory services practice of the Schonbraun McCann Group (SMG) in Roseland. Halpern, who has more than 22 years of industry experience, specializes in family wealth planning. Before joining SMG, he served as director at J.H. Cohn in New York. He has also held positions at Deloitte Haskins and Sells, U.S. Trust Co. of New York and Berdon LLP Halpern earned his law degree from New York Law School and his bachelor's degree from SUNY Buffalo.
Hospitality
Stacie A. DeMicco has been named senior conference planning manager at The Heldlich in New Brunswick. Before joining The Heldrich, she served as conference planning manager at North Maple Inn in Basking Ridge. Benchmark Hospitality International operates both properties. Earlier in her career, DeMicco held planning positions with The Wyndham Resort in Orlando, FIa., and the Ocean Place Resort in Long Branch. She attended the University of Towson in Maryland.
Claudine M. Sidney has been appointed director of conference services for The Heldrich in New Brunswick. Before joining the property, she served as assistant director of event services at the Hilton in Short Hills. Earlier, she worked as general manager of the corporate conference center at Avenus Pharmaceuticals in Bridgewater. Sidney is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. She holds an associate's degree in hotel and restaurant management and a bachelor's degree in sales and meeting management.
Law
Stephen M. Greenberg has joined the law firm of McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter LLP in Morristown as counsel to the firm. Greenberg has practiced law for 38 years and was a founder and senior partner of Stern & Greenberg in Roseland. He earned his law degree from George Washington University's National School of Law. He began his legal career as an assistant United States attorney and executive assistant to the United States attorney for the District of New Jersey.
Pharmaceutical
Elkan Gamzu has been appointed chief executive officer of Pharmos Corp. in Iselin. He has been a company director since February 2000, and is currently a consultant to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. He has held a number of senior executive positions in those industries, including vice president, project management leadership, of Millennium Pharmaceuticals, CEO of Cambridge Neuroscience and senior positions with Warner-Lambert and Hoffmann-LaRoche. Gamzu is a graduate of Hebrew University in Jerusalem and earned both his Ph.D. and master's degrees in experimental and physiological psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Real Estate
Christopher Brown has been promoted from southern regional president to executive vice president at Prudential New Jersey Properties in Somerset. With the new appointment, Brown will have a larger role in overseeing Prudential's day-to-day operations while continuing to manage the firm's southern region. Brown, who has worked in the real estate industry for 25 years, was president of Brown Fowler Realtors. He played an integral role in that company's expansion, which in 2000 culminated in a merger with two other businesses to create Prudential New Jersey Properties. He is a member of the New Jersey Association of Realtors Million Dollar Sales Club and a past instructor of Prudential's Real Estate Marketing Course.
Clifford J. Mortara has been promoted to director of the client solutions group at Cushman & Wakefield in East Rutherford. Mortara joined the firm in 1998 as a property manager and has been promoted to positions of increasing responsibility over the years. Most recently, he served as a senior portfolio manager in charge of tri-state area properties totalingmore than 1.5 million square feet and construction management projects valued in excess of $2 million annually. In his new position, Mortara supervises four property managers and mentors two associate portfolio managers in the region. He has been involved in office services and facilities management since 1975 and transitioned to the property side of the business in 1987. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics and business management from Hunter College.
James Sousa has been named manager of Weichert Commercial Brokerage Inc.'s headquarters office in Morris Plains. Before joining Weichert in 2005, Sousa was a managing director with Newmark Real Estate in Rutherford. Sousa began his real estate career with Helmsley-Spear and later joined Jacobson, Goldfarb & Tanzman LLC as a specialist in the northern New Jersey office market. He holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Curry College.
