Transmitting Live From Beijing

NJBIZ, Sep 1, 2008 by Ruth, João-Pierre S

Viewers of NBC's coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in August saw some video footage transmitted with help from LiveU in Fair Lawn.

LiveU says NBC Universal used the company's services to upload live footage from the net- work's mobile cameras at the games for transmission over wire- less infrastructure. LiveU makes portable transmitters that enable video cameras to stream live feeds without the need for satellite or microwave communication links. The broadcaster picks up the signal at the studio for transmission to the television audience.

LiveU says its products and services are developed by its researchers in Kfar Saba, Israel. Its solutions are used to transmit live video from sporting events, concerts and other televised programs. LiveU says NBC used the system for behind-the-scenes and roaming video coverage at the Beijing Games. -João-Pierre S. Ruth
