Atlantic City Hilton President Resigns

NJBIZ, Sep 1, 2008 by Daks, Martin C

The president of Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort has resigned, a company spokesman said last week.

Anthony Rodio left "to pursue other interests," said Brian Cahill, director of public relations at the Atlantic City casino hotel. He would not provide any details about Rodio' s departure.

Cahill said the company plans to name Michael Frawley as Rodio' s replacement, subject to the approval of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. Frawley currently manages two of the company's Mississippi casinos.

Rodio's departure comes during a downturn for the New Jersey casino industry. The 11 casinos in Atlantic City collectively reported a $39.4 million loss on $1.2 billion of revenue in the second quarter of 2008, compared to a $34.8 million profit on $1.2 billion of revenue in the prior-year period, according to figures released last week by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

Many casinos say they have been hurt by a partial smoking ban enacted by the state Legislature and by increased competition from gaming facilities in other states.

The Atlantic City Hilton reported a $5.6 million dollar loss on $60.5 million of revenue during the second quarter, compared with a $5.4 million loss on $66 million of revenue in the prior-year period, according to the Casino Control Commission. - Martin C. Daks
