Putting That Allowance to Good Use
Orange County Business Journal, Jan 22-Jan 28, 2007
To youngsters, buying all son's of video games, toys and candy probably seems like the perfect use for money. However, teaching children about saving can make all the difference. Banks like PFF Bank & Trust have actually done a lot to promote saving at a young age and have even gone so far as to feature children in advertising campaigns as a way to connect with not only the younger savers, but the older ones as well.
A recent advertising campaign from PFF Bank & Trust featured kids doing everyday things like mowing the lawn, checking the balance of their piggy banks and finding money on the ground. The point was to show that one day. these kids will eventually grow up and need the help of a bank so they can get the most out of their money. Of course, adults could relate to the campaign as well, considering most of us shared these experiences when we were kids.
Outreach programs increase awareness
In support of this campaign, PFF also set up several outreach programs at various schools to teach children about things like banking and managing checkbooks. These types of educational programs simply make kids more aware of what's ahead in their financial futures.
Once children realize the importance of money, they'll probably be more inclined to want to get more of it. Introducing them to savings accounts and even CDs or money market products can build a level of excitement that might just go head to head with any video game or toy that's out there.
It's never too early to start saving that allowance. And banks like PFF Bank & Trust are there to make that as fun and as easy as possible.
