Practical TPM: Successful Equipment Management at Agilent Technologies. James A. Leflar. Productivity Press, P.O. Box 13390, Portland, OR 97213-0390. 2001. 359 pp. ISBN 1-56327-242-3. $50.
Based on an actual TPM, or Total Productive Maintenance, program that the author and his team developed at an integrated circuit fabrication plant, this book explains the fundamental concepts of TPM, including its basic principles, its goals, the resulting cultural changes, and the keys to successful implementation. The author then goes on to describe, in step-by-step detail, the evolution of his own TPM program. Each phase is clearly defined and demonstrated; the working tools and systems developed by the team in the process are discussed at length. The book concludes with suggestions for developing a successful program.
