One More Fellow

Mechanical Engineering, Jan 2006

We've learned that one Fellow was omitted from the honors list that was published as a supplement to Mechanical Engineering magazine in November last year.

Mohamad S. Qatu, P.E., leads a team that supports advanced product creation at Ford Motor Co. and is an adjunct professor at Oakland University in Michigan. He has done extensive research in various fields, including dynamics of composite plates and shells, fluid-borne noise, vehicle dynamics, and vehicle noise and vibration. His outstanding record of teaching and service to the engineering community at large includes directing the mechanical engineering technology program at Franklin University (1992-95), and serving as associate professor of mechanical engineering at Lake Superior State University (1995-97). He has served as a guest professor at Wuhan University of Technology and visiting professor at An-Najah National University. He received his undergraduate degree from Yarmouk University in Jordan in 1985 and his M.S. from Ohio State University in 1986. Qatu has been awarded two U.S. patents on noise suppression. His industrial experience includes working for Dresser Industries (1989-91), Honda of America (1994), Dana Corp. (1997-2000) and Ford (2000-present). The author of more than 60 research papers and one book on vibration of laminated shells and plates, he is a registered professional engineer in both Ohio and Michigan. He also has developed courses and organized sessions for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Society of Automotive Engineers, in addition to ASME. Ph.D. (1989), Ohio State University.
