He has done extensive research in various fields, including dynamics of composite plates and shells, fluid-borne noise, vehicle dynamics, and vehicle noise and vibration. His outstanding record of teaching and service to the engineering community at large includes directing the mechanical engineering technology program at Franklin University (1992-95), and serving as associate professor of mechanical engineering at Lake Superior State University (1995-97). He has served as a guest professor at Wuhan University of Technology and visiting professor at An-Najah National University. He received his undergraduate degree from Yarmouk University in Jordan in 1985 and his M.S. from Ohio State University in 1986. Qatu has been awarded two U.S. patents on noise suppression.
