The African Yellow Pages First Edition 2004-2005

Founded by Tesfu Sintayhu

Free: Washington DCUSA

Established in 2003, the African Yellow Pages (AYP) is the first publication of its kind serving the US diaspora as a whole and the Washington DC metropolitan area in particular. AYP is a valuable listings resource for the many African-owned businesses in the region as well as the many important businesses that serve the African community.

Founder Sintayhu insists that the AYP strives to include information that is relevant to the needs of the broader African community and at the same time commercially and culturally empowers the African community by addressing its needs.

Consequently, AYP is not simply a business listings publication - it is a true one-stop information resource that lists African embassies in the US, US embassies in Africa, and African regional organisations both with US offices and in the continent. Other useful information includes that on immigration and the US naturalisation exam, a listing of all major African holidays, major African airlines, financial institutions and trade associations, NGOs and AGOA offices.

With the support of Ronald N Langton, the national director of the US Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency; as well as of Donald M Payne and William J Jefferson - both members of the US Congress - the AYP has harnessed considerable political backing for its initiative. It has also obtained the commercial sponsorship of DaimlerChrysler as its anchor for the publication, and a number of top level advertisers such as World Space Satellite Radio.

The AYP is free to those that live in - or have businesses based in - Washington DC. However, outside this district and overseas, it may be possible to obtain a free copy (postage required) by contacting info@africanyellowpages.com A new edition is planned for the end of this year.
