Africa looks east for energy inspiration

Cross-border synergies
African companies must exploit the synergy happening between Africa and India, says the managing director of Nigeria's Sonidep Petrol and Gas Company. Addressing a bilateral symposium in Delhi, he said Africa wanted to learn from India's experience and progress because it too has a colonial past. "We want to know why it is doing so much better now," he said.
India's Oil & Natural Gas Corporation is already investing $6bn in power plants and railways in Nigeria in return for stakes in Nigerian oilfields. Zimbabwe's trade and industry minister said his government was looking at Indian participation in uranium mining. "We view this relationship as one of mutual trust," he said. "It has no colonial baggage. It is more balanced."
