Bang-Knudsen, Inc. was recognized in Gourmet Retailer, the leading trade journal in high-end housewares and kitchenwares. The recently published 25th Anniversary salute to 21 individuals who influenced the gourmet cookware business included MANA-member Peter BangKnudsen for his contribution to the trade over 25 years. Bang-Knudsen heads his representative agency at the Seattle Gift Mart and covers the Pacific Northwest for leading manufacturers of gourmet cookware and kitchen tools, selling to independent retailers as well as national chains. He is the third of four generations in the family housewares business, which also employs his son, Jacob Bang-Knudsen. Details about the agency may be seen at www.bang-knudsen.com.

An excerpt from the Gourmet Retailer article follows:

Individuals Who Shaped the Kitchenware Industry

This was another difficult category as hundreds of dedicated individuals have made strong contributions to the kitchenware industry. We know you'll tell us about others, but here are 20, plus one, that made a difference.

Peter Bang-Knudsen joined his father's manufacturers' representative business after graduating from college and serving as a marine captain in the Vietnam War. Initially, he traveled between San Diego and Seattle by car, servicing retailers along the way, and in 1971, he was appointed the first West Coast rep for Cuisinart. He worked closely with Wally Peck, Leonard Rogers and Susan Corwin to organize the first San Francisco Gourmet Cookware Show and helped gourmet stores gain access to major cookbooks by putting together gourmet specialty sales channels for cookbook publishers. He also worked with leading authors, encouraging them to make personal appearances in kitchen-ware stores rather than just in department stores. Peter is past president and chairman of The International Housewares Representatives Association, and remains active in his agency, which represents a number of high-end housewares brands.
