Concerns about fraud and identity theft intensified in May when, in possibly the largest breach of banking security in U.S. history, several bank employees were charged with stealing the account information of more than 500,000 customers of various banks including Commerce Bank, PNC Bank, Wachovia and Bank of America.

Meanwhile, Time Warner announced that an outside storage company lost computer backup tapes containing names and social security information on 600,000 current and former employees.
