Business People, Aug 2008 by Schaff, Kim

Occupation: Magistrate, Allen County Circuit

Hometown: Fort Wayne

Q: What puts your hometown on the map?

A: Fort Wayne is a great place to grow up and to raise children. The annual changing of the four seasons allows for a variety of outdoor activities year-round. The people here are friendly and supportive. And, the Rivergreenway is beginning to grow into a unique and valuable community asset.

Q: What is your educational background?

A: Bishop Dwenger High School, Fort Wayne, Indiana; B.A., Indiana University, Fort Wayne, Indiana; J.D., Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, Indiana

Q: What are your responsibilities in your current position?

A: I primarily hear family and/or children-related cases that involve issues, such as child custody, parenting time, child support, property division, divorce or paternity.

Q: What activities do you enjoy in northeast Indiana?

A: I enjoy distance running on the Rivergreenway and in the parks, riding bicycles with friends and family and working out at the downtown YMCA. Franke Park is one of my favorite places. I grew up just outside of the park. It has so much to offer, such as the zoo, day camp, sledding hills, bloody gorge, bike trails, woodlands and Frieman Theater.

Q: What do you think a fitting tagline for Fort Wayne would be?

A: My oldest daughter, Beth, and her friends always called it "Fort Fun" when they were away at college. I have found a lot of fun here every day of my life at home, work and with friends. You can find a real comfort zone here that allows you to let down your defenses and really enjoy life.
