KPMG launches the audit committee institute

PMG LLP has announced the launch of the Audit Committee Institute (ACI), a free resource for corporate board members serving on audit committees. The move is in response to recommendations of the SEC's Blue Ribbon Panel on Improving the Effectiveness of Corporate Audit Committees, one of which would require that audit committees comprise members that are "financially literate."

ACI plans to conduct a series of conferences across the country featuring educational seminars and discussion panels. The conferences would focus on informing audit committee members of changes in the regulatory environment and teaching methods to serve shareholders more effectively.

ACI aims to become an integral resource for newly appointed committee members and a repository for information on audit committee service and reference. ACI will also seek alliances with educational, business, academic, legal, and other organizations to increase aware ness of the changing role of audit committees.
