Georgakis named Lehigh lacocca professor

Christos Georgakis, AIChE Fellow and professor of chemical engineering at Lehigh University was named Iacocca Professor on June 1. Georgakis is one of four professors appointed to the prestigious professorship, which recognizes excellent educators who are experts in their field.
Georgakis is founding director of the Chemical Process Modeling & Control Research Center, an industry/university cooperative research center. He is recognized for his research contributions in the area of reactor modeling and control of chemical reactors and complex processes.
Georgakis is a member of the Lehigh Valley Section, a past director of the CAST Division, and a past member of the Systems and Process Control programming group. He received his chemical engineering degree from the National Technical University of Athens in Greece, his MS from the University of Illinois, and his PhD from the University of Minnesota. Georgakis joined Lehigh faculty in 1983, following positions at MIT and the University of Thessaloniki.
As an Iacocca Professor, Georgakis will -participate in the planning and oversite of Lehigh's Iacocca Institute programs, work to integrate the Institute's activities with Lehigh's academic community, and serve on an advisory board to the Institute's director during his five-year, renewable term.
The Iacocca Institute, jointly formed in 1988 by alumnus Lee A. Iacocca and Lehigh University, works to increase the global competitiveness of American organizations, and provides programs that focus on business and industry knowledge, leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and global networks and cultures.
