Direct mail hit by USPS increases

Medical Marketing and Media, Mar 2008 by McGuire, Stephen

DIRECT MAIL marketers take note-the US Postal Service (USPS) has announced several rate increases for first-class mail, standard mail, periodicals, package services and special services. The increases are expected to take effect on May 12.

The USPS said it plans to increase prices for these products on an annual basis each May. The price changes will help avoid problems caused by the old pricing system, where several years went by without a change and then some mailers were hit with a big increase, the USPS said.

According to published reports, the USPS aims to move toward the industry standard similar to how to other shipping companies adjust their prices every year. -SM
