DTN introduces new weather service for the transportation industry

Fleet Equipment, Dec 1998

TN Weather Center, a service of Data Transmission Network Corp. (DTN) introduces DTN Transportation Weather, a new satellite service delivering weather information designed specifically for the transportation industry. DTN Transportation Weather targets those responsible for road maintenance and businesses depending on road conditions. The service provides instant access to comprehensive local, regional and national weather forecasts and information, along with National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Warnings & Alerts, the most comprehensive weather warning alert system available.

NOAA Weather Wire coverage includes color-coded, county-bycounty graphical depiction of severe weather alerts, tornado, severe thunderstorm and winter storm watches and warnings, and an audible alarm feature that sounds when threatening weather is in the area. United States maps show road conditions on all Interstate systems, state roads and highways.

DTN Transportation Weather is a stand-alone system with all equipment (hardware and software) provided by DTN. To compliment the system, subscribers can choose between DTN Weather Alert Paging System or DTNonline.

DTN Weather Alert Paging System provides immediate notification of severe weather events directly to the subscriber's alpha, numeric pager. The service includes local and regional travel advisories and Interstate and state highway closings.

DTNonline, DTN Weather Center's Internet service, includes all the graphics and audio weather information contained in DTN Transportation Weather. It contains 48 full-color regional NEXRAD (radar) images updated every 15 minutes and NOAA Warnings and Alerts, the most current on the net. DTNonline allows subscribers to make important weather-related management decisions at home or away from the office using their PC.
