Shell Lubricants introduces synthetic axle fluid

Fleet Equipment, Jan 2008

Shell Lubricants has introduced Shell Spirax ASX R, a new long-life axle fluid that offers improved fuel efficiency of more than one percent when compared to several products in the same application, its maker said.

Shell Spirax ASX R axle fluid is formulated with synthetic base oils and additive technology that the company says provide improved lubrication of the drive train, lowering the operating temperature to help promote long equipment life. Shell Spirax ASX R is approved by several OEMs for their extended drain specifications.

Designed for heavily loaded axles, it offers protection against gear wear and pitting. The product's oxidation resistance also helps prevent damage to seals due to deposit formation, and the lubricant's static and dynamic seal compatibility helps minimize seal leaks. It may be used as a transmission fluid in non-synchronized transmissions where mineral and synthetic gear oils are recommended for applications requiring an API GL-5 product.
