MGM Brakes offers electronic brake alert systems
Fleet Equipment, Apr 2008
The MGM Brakes Electronic Stroke Alert e*STROKE system converts air brake actuator shaft travel into an electronic signal. This signal is monitored and output transmitted to a Chassis Communications Module (CCM), which the company said provides the driver with a safe and convenient means to check brake stroke status.
MGM Brakes has also released e*LINK, an in-cab communication device providing real-time communication between trailer and tractor indicating the trailer brake status. e*LINK plugs into the cigarette lighter or auxiliary power supply of the tractor and receives a signal sent from the e*STROKE trailer module. The e*LINK uses colored LED lights to instantly verify the function of trailer brakes by monitoring park brake release, out-of-adjustment, dragging and non-functioning brakes, at anytime and in any weather, the maker said.
The e*STROKE system is installed using the existing 7-wire electrical system, and is complementary to other on-board electronic systems commonly found on heavy-duty airbraked vehicles, such as anti-lock braking systems (ABS). Electronic sensors are pre-installed and pre-calibrated at the factory.
