Two new printers, fast graphics scanner from Epson
Office Solutions, May 2000
The Epson Stylus Color 860 and Stylus Color 760 are designed and priced to meet the needs of SOHOs, delivering 1440-dpi resolution and Micro Piezo print technology for small droplet size and sharp text, photos, and graphics. The 860 performs at 9.5 ppm for black text and 7 ppm for photo-quality color output. It's both PC and Macintosh compatible and has built-in USB and parallel ports for maximum flexibility. A new design makes the 860 quieter than its predecessor, and its enhanced print driver features include print preview, poster printing, and watermark capability for added productivity and creativity. The new model includes Polaroid PhotoMAX Pro and ArcSoft PhotoPrinter SE digital imaging applications. PC users can take advantage of eFax and Epson Film Factory, which are also included with the printer. With printing speeds up to 7 ppm for black and 6 ppm for color, the Stylus Color 760 is ideal for small-business users who want to add a professional touch to business presentations, reports, and digital photography.

Epson America's new Expression 1600 scanner uses MatrixCCD and Micro Step Drive technologies to achieve a 1600 x 3200-dpi true hardware resolution. This precision, plus high performance and fast scanning speeds, make the 1600 an excellent tool for graphic arts, photography, and pre-press professionals.
The new model is available in four cross-platform software configurations: Special Edition, Artist, Professional (Pro), and Professional FireWire. The Special Edition includes Epson TWAIN Pro drivers only. The other three models contain a suite of software including MonacoEZcolor, a color management utility; Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE for image editing; NewSoft Presto! PageManager for document management; and Xerox Textbridge Classic OCR. The Pro and Pro FireWire models also come with a transparency unit in the box. Additionally, the Pro FireWire includes a FireWire card installed in the scanner.
The Expression 1600 can create a full-color preview in eight seconds, can scan an 82 x 11-inch color photo in 20 seconds when scanning at 300 dpi, and can scan a 35mm slide at 1600 dpi in 53 seconds. It features Epson's built-in ColorTrue II Imaging System to integrate hardware, optics, and image processing to scan images with sharp detail and color accuracy. The high dynamic range can capture great detail in highlight and shadow areas for such uses as scanning film negatives and transparencies, the Dual-- Focus Mechanism eliminates light refraction, and the Xenon cold cathode fluorescent lamp provides a highintensity light source and eliminates warm-up time.
