OfficeMax clips rebates
Office Solutions, Nov/Dec 2006
Office superstore OfficeMax is the first national office products retailer in America to eliminate its retail mailin rebate program. Instead of participating in standard manufacturer rebate programs that require a customer to save product receipts, fill out forms, and submit all the information within a specified time period, OfficeMax now reflects an instant discount in product pricing that consumers can immediately enjoy at the cash register.
By clipping the rebates, when purchasing these discounted items, consumers also will no longer pay tax on the full retail price at checkout. (A mail-in rebate doesn't include a rebate on the portion of the tax paid at the original price.) In place of offering rebates, OfficeMax now works directly with manufacturers to offer periodic exclusive savings in store. Some products sold by OfficeMax may still cany a manufacturer's rebate on the box or on a manufacturer's Website.
