C & C Technologies Assists With Hurricane Investigation Surveys

Sea Technology, Dec 2005

C & C Technologies Inc. (Lafayette, Louisiana) recently completed several months of investigative surveys related to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The surveys were completed as per the Minerals Management Service's Notice to Lessees and Operators, using multibeam bathymetry, side scan sonar and magnetometer equipment.

In order to effectively complete these emergency projects, C & C deployed three vessels that each worked 24 hours a day to survey the seafloor for damaged pipelines and scattered debris. The pipeline inspection surveys did not reveal as much damage as industry engineers had originally feared.

Jay Northcutt, Geophysical Division manager for C & C Technologies, commented, "When comparing the damage this year, relative to hurricane Ivan's devastation, this year's storms were more damaging to the rigs and platforms rather than the seafloor pipelines damaged by Ivan. The majority of our surveys were to allow operators to determine the location of missing assets and to provide coordinates for salvage projects."
