Markey Machinery Supplies Winches For NOAA's Okeanos Explorer

Sea Technology, Dec 2007

Two years ago, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Ocean Exploration announced plans to convert the USNS Capable to a research vessel equipped to support scientific explorations of little-known and unknown ocean areas. A Markey Machinery (Seattle, Washington) type-DESH-5 electric research winch with optional turntable assembly was recently installed on board the vessel, which is now named research vessel Okeanos Explorer.

A second Markeydesigned winch, the compact conductivity, temperature, depth winch, type COM 10V, is also on order from Todd Pacific Shipyards (Seattle) and scheduled for delivery and installation in 2008.
