SKG WRAPS UP WORK AT BIGANOS
PPI, Jan 2007
FRANCE
The Smurfit Kappa Group (SKG) has completed a Euro 37 million ($49 million) investment scheme at its Cellulose du Pin mill in Biganos, Aquitaine. The project, which took around three weeks, comprised work on the plant's two containerboard machines as well as the digester and limekiln.
The mill's PM 5 has received a new press section, while the wet end, dryer section and the sizing and calendering stages have been upgraded. The revamp was aimed at improving the quality of white-top kraftliner produced and reducing variable costs. The machine's capacity was also expected to rise from 130,000 tonnes/yr to around 180,000 tonnes/yr. PM 5 resumed production on December 1.
