SOLOMBALSKY TO INVEST

Solombalsky Pulp and Paper MUl has launched a project to build a wood preparation plant with an annual capacity of 1 million m3 of chips at its facility in the Arkhangelsk region of northern Russia.

Andritz has been signed up to do the basic engineering of the plant, while GiprobumPöyry will conduct detailed project planning. Construction work will start at the beginning of 2009. The facility is expected to come into operation within a year.

The building of the wood preparation facility is part of a five-year investment plan at Solombalsky Pulp and Paper Mill, which also includes a modernization of the pulp washing section and a reconstruction of a turbine of the regeneration plant #1 by 2010.

Solombalsky Pulp and Paper Mill can produce 230,000 tonnes/yr of unbleached kraft pulp and some 8,000 tonnes/yr of packaging paper.
