Concrete Society Trust Student's Award

Thanks to the ongoing generous support of Bureau Veritas, The Concrete Society Trust is pleased to once again make a presentation at the Annual Awards Dinner.

WINNER

Lindsey Barrett, Cranfield University, Defence College of Management and Technology

Awarded to a student for the submission of a thesis or research article in a concrete-related field, and judged relative to their level of study, the winner of the 2006 Trust prize is Lindsey Barrctt who was, at the time of submitting her entry, a third-year student at Cranfield University, Defence College of Management and Technology.

The paper entitled The effect of curly age strain on the strength of concrete focused on assessing the range of strains affecting wet joints in concrete, most notably when a cold (construction) joint is Conned and new fresh plastic concrete poured against the hardened surface. It is hoped that an abstract of this paper will be published in one of the 2007 issues of CONCRETE magazine.

The Trustees, who also marked the competition entries, are Tom Kirkbride (Chairman), a former Director of The Concrete Society: Bob Hartland (a Society Past President) and George Somerville. tonner Director of Engineering at the British Cement Association.
