BSI Concrete Committee calls for help

Concrete, Apr 2007

BSI has asked the Concrete Committee for its view on the future of the 20 residual Parts of BS 1881: Testing concreie, namely DD216: Method for the determination of chloride content of fresh concrete, BS 5838-1: Specification for dry packaged cememitious mixes - Prepacked concrete mixes and BS 8000-2.1: Workmanship on building sites.

Code of practice for concrete work - Mixing and transporting concrete. The choices are withdrawn, declared obsolescent, confirmed without change, confirmed after minor changes, new edition after technical change, or revised. If a new edition or revision is proposed, a business case has to be provided to justify the use of resources. A Standard that is technically wrong should be withdrawn or revised. Due to the lack of resources, the BSI Concrete Committee will have to give serious consideration to the 'declared obsolescent' option for some of these Standards that are technically correct but refer to superseded Standards and procedures. This means that these Standards may still be used with care. To help the BSI Concrete Committee decide its response, please contact Tom Harrison at: tharrison@qpa-brmca.org.uk
