Banking on Community

Hoosier Banker, Nov 2007

"Hubert" the Harris Lion, the corporate mascot of Harris Bank, Hammond, was featured as a six-foot LEGO model throughout October at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Hubert was created in 1958 by Chicago advertising legend Leo Burnett, who also developed Tony the Tiger for Kellogg's® Frosted Flakes®. Earlier this year Harris Bank - and Hubert - entered the Central Indiana market through the acquisition of First National Bank & Trust. To celebrate, children who visited the Hubert LEGO display at the museum on the first three Saturdays last month were eligible to win one of three $500 savings bonds.

Monroe Bank, Bloomington, hosted three long-term health care insurance seminars in September at its main office. The aim was to educate participants on becoming knowledgeable consumers regarding their long-term health care needs. Topics of discussion included: protecting assets, understanding the likelihood of needing long-term care, maintaining independence in later years, evaluating the features of long-term care insurance, tax advantages of qualified long-term care insurance, and differentiating between Medicare and Medicaid.

Monroe Bank also is supporting the community by presenting two types of art, quilting and blown glass, in its art gallery at the Kirkwood banking center in Bloomington. Seven local quilters and a glass-blowing artist have their works on display. The exhibition continues through Jan. 26, 2008.
